boxers or briefs?

horseface's birthday gifts were fairly unimaginative this year.  i'm still creatively tapped from Christmas.  but he seemed pleased with his new duds.  he's not exactly "designer jeans guy" but I love these AGs on him.  he was excited about the blundstones, too.  and obvs he was over the moon over the framed picture {totes kidding, he could care less about that shiz}  but I worship the images from the ash's wedding from white loft studio and this is one of my very faves.  sneaky heidi caught us holding hands under the table.  love.

frenchie friday: miss looloo

we tried to have loo sit up straight for her portrait but she just wasn't having it.  and well, this is just a much more accurate depiction of the little pork chop.

target tuesday : effing george

so had to make a quick run to target this morning because george ate C & P's boyfriend, Grady's, sneakers {and prized possessions} while he was innocently here for a playdate yesterday.   i needed to replace those bad boys STAT.  hopefully G is none the wiser.  don't let him read the blog today, sugar!
 GEORGE!  he is OOC. good thing he is  . . .

so. darn. handsome.

so handsome. . . so naughty. . .

anyhoot, while i was there i picked up the altuzarra tumblers for Grady's mom to compensate for pain and suffering.  {and then i felt some pain & suffering of my own when i saw the entire neiman's collection is now 70 percent off - doh!}

so grabbed these swim caps for our trip to mimi's to lift my spirits.

to match this.  obvs.

i have a serious issue with little girl's swimwear.
serious. issue.

P.S.  keeping george on a tight leash today. . .literally.  horseface is expecting his playoff tickets in the mail at any given moment.  after *the incident* of 2011, this "leashing" is mandatory.

I RESOLVE. . .

to be a better blogger!
i'm both shocked and embarrassed that i have not posted since november.  i meeaaaan, that's a lil ridic.  i have 101 excuses but i also resolve to stop making excuses . . . hmmm . . . so i guess i'll just start back up again and hope you'll forgive me?  pretty please with veuve on top?

the good news is that i have lots of fun things to share.  so much so that i don't even know where to begin {sigh}

how about the last 24 hours and then i'll work backwards?

first of all, santa brought me a new TV for my bedroom.  i saw an oprah once {God i miss that woman} that said there should be a NO TV in the bedroom rule. another friend {let's call her 'heater'} casually mentioned she didn't have one because it would mean the demise of her marriage.  so as CBC just hooked up 42 inches of marital doom, i realize that i'm okay with it.  i hope we are strong enough to make it through this new addition in our lives, but if not, i'm keeping the tv {and george.  obvs.} TV is pretty much the only thing i love more than . . . well, everything, including the horseface himself. {kidding. . . sort of}

okay, in another surprising turn of events, i attended my first patriots game yesterday!  it was about 46 degrees below zero and glorious.  i drank a thousand coors lights and officially feel foul as we enter 2013.  i resolve to do something about that, too.

so very very much more to share but i think i need a nap.  and the 42 inches of impending divorce is calling my name.

and then i need to rally for tonight.  i'm a little behind the 8 ball and there is more food & booze on the horizon.  obvs.  just what lil hoot needs.  i'm wearing this number.  and my hair pretty much looks like the model's right now so we're all set there.

oh, and i simply canNOT go another second without publicly thanking ms. meredith nelson photography, white loft studio, and the mostest fabulous friend and graphic designer evah, miss lucinda of chocolate creative design.  all these lovelies helped me create a pretty darn good Christmas card this year.  some of you are aware that i am in an intense Christmas card competition . . .  with myself.  i usually win.  ha!  {btw, i'm so glad i'm still hilare after my hiatus}

okay, so i'll send pics of the actual factual card later but here are the images we used.

can you even stand it?  this 'emergency' photo shoot with confetti was well worth the clean up.  i love these images with all of my heart for so many reasons.  not the least of which is that they will forever remind me of how lucky i am to have a friend like meredith, who despite me being a high-maint pain in the ass, miraculously still likes me.  oh, meredith, these bring me such joy, sweet lady.  you are amazing.  xoxoxo

oh and whaaattttt??  hello, my fave pup pictures EVAH.  when you see the rest of this gloriousness from miss heidi of white loft studio you just might die.  i want you all to make it to 2013 so i'll hold the rest back until then.  because i mean it, you'll DIE.  i have heart palpitations every time i look at them.

i am so darn lucky to have these talented ladies in my life.  they inspire me so and make my heart happy {so corny. . . so true}

miss lu also helped me with my fave christmas gift i've ever given.  ahhhhh, cannot wait to share with you!  i think tomorrow is the day as i can't think of a better way to kick off the new year of blogging.

happy happy happy new year to you all.  so sorry again for falling off the grid.
i have missed you so and you'll be sick of me in no time.

and i leave you with this, because as previously mentioned, i heart oprah.

pining for pine street

i know it's been awhile . . . i was busy having the best. week. evah.
truly some of the happiest moments of my life.

so many more wedding deets to follow -- but as of now -- i'm unpacking, re-grouping, and missing our humble abode {rental. obvs.} in the heart of nantucket town.

here's the room where gemma {THE dress} slept.  she took up the majority of the room.  obvs.

such a beauty. . .

c & p were like two lil goldilocks trying out all of the beds!

the guest house served as wedding HQ.

and the scene of many late-night stubby's "meals." {foul}

as well as apothecary jar cleaning, escort card stuffing, shell painting, candle-making, and many other wedding tasks. . .
"what's gonna work?! teeeamwork!"

devo & sunny's bunks.  adorbs.

here's one sneak peek of the beautiful bride pre-gaming at 44 pine.

the ash was beyond stunning.

anyone in the market for an ack rental, i highly recommend these digs. check out the you tube video.
there was room for many helping hands. . . and gemma.  that says a lot.  not to mention, the space was very conducive to laughter.

stay tuned for a lot of gushing, i mean, genuine RAVING, about our indominatable vendors --  chocolate creative design, petal floral design &  white loft studio - are your ears burning yet?

and thanks for your patience with the sporadic blog.

wedding wednesday: mermaid of honor

anyone who reads lil hoot with any regularity is aware that i'm fully immersed in my mermaid of honor duties.  i am having such big fun helping the ash plan her big day, and i see my role just as what it's called, an honor.

here are some deets {with a teeny bit of hoot vernacular added} as told to classic bride for their lovely feature. {big thanks, SD!}

my cousin, ashly, is my favorite person on the planet.  {sorry horseface} when she got engaged to her amazebalz fiancee Scott, I was beyond happy and since I am a party planner, I had already started planning the wedding and shower in my head months prior {obvs}.   I knew I wanted to enlist the help of industry faves, White Loft Studio, chocolate creative design and Petal Floral Design {also Ashly's wedding vendors - yay!}

I wanted the shower to personify Ashly - laid back, beautiful, and above all, fun!  My mom was happy to co-host with me and offer her coastal connecticut home as the venue.  She has a mermaid statue perched on her sea wall which was one of the inspirations for the event.  Ashly has always loved the beach {so much so she resides on Nantucket!} so I wanted to incorporate seaside and beachy elements without being trite.  She also isn't your typical bride and was not comfortable with the traditional shower concept so we set out to create a "cocktail hour shower" announcing "one less lovely fish in the sea".

The invites, painstakingly created by my lovely and talented friend Lucinda Wesson of chocolate creative design, set the tone for the celebratory occasion perfectly.  Lucinda illustrated a darling mermaid holding a cocktail which was then printed with gold foil on the invites, complimenting the pink, coral and aqua color scheme.  The RSVP was to go to the "mermaid of honor".  Envelopes were lined with an aqua and gold glittered scallop pattern.  fave. invites. evah.

The scallop pattern, bubbles and mermaids were to be found everywhere from the pattern of my mom's stone patio to the cocktail napkins.  Lucinda created a custom stamp for the napkins with the mermaid from the invite and the don ho lyrics  'tiny bubbles in the wine, make me happy, make me feel fine".

The sweets were originally to be set up on the sea wall but the weather didn't cooperate. {womp}
 Instead we set up the dessert table inside with subtle seaside elements.
The gurgling cod was used for the floral centerpiece, which was composed of coral charm peonies and other gorgeous blooms, also a gift to the bride to be.

i twisted sugar on top's arm to work her magic during her maternity leave and i cannot imagine the shower without these beauties.  thank you, sugar! {you can go back to milking nicky bobby now}

Vintage jadeite shell and cake stands to display pink champagne and mint macarons, the gold-dusted seashell and starfish cookies, very homemade cupcakes, and a delicate scalloped cake with a peony fondant topper also graced the table.

i just adore this cake.
Sequined linens gave a shimmery seaside effect on both the bar and and sweets table.
Guests were served pink champagne in aqua and blush champagne flutes with gold and pink pom pom swizzle sticks . . .
and a gold 'holla' sign was the focal point of the bar.

This was also a perfect "prop" for the stunning bride-to-be!

There were multiple surprises in store for Ashly.  Her best friend from DC flew in for the event - Heidi of course captured the reaction of the elated bride perfectly.  Which brings me to my next surprise- Heidi of White Loft Studio, herself!  Ashly is thrilled to have her shoot her October wedding on Nantucket so her presence at the shower made her so happy, and even happier when we saw the pictures!  Heidi also delivered the gorgeous florals from Ashly's wedding florist, Petal Floral Design.

followed by more hugs . . .

and lots more pink bubbles . . .
obvs.

My 3 and half year old twin daughters are so excited to be flower girls and couldn't wait to make an appearance in their champagne tutus and bubble cardigans!  They also got a sneak peek at what their flower crowns for the wedding will look like {Becca from Petal Floral Design created a special one for the mermaid on the sea wall}

Cast iron mermaid bottle openers served as favors with a pablo picasso quote -
'love is the greatest refreshment of all'
These were hung from the chandelier above the bar.

The bridesmaids had fun awkwardly posing with the bride and the pink mermaids sign!
Guests were also sent home with small bundles of glitter and other goodies to throw in the sea at a full moon {shower was 2 days before full moon} as part of a "mermaid love spell".

{my only regret was that someone forgot to cast a spell on me to ward off my frizzy hair and post-shower hangover . . .}

Looking forward to collaborating with all of these amazing vendors in October for the main event, and feeling so lucky that we get to have so much fun along the way. holla!

what i didn't share with classic bride was that the cocktail hour shower was held the evening before my gramp's memorial service, so that far-away family members could be present for both events.  it was a bittersweet weekend but ashly's impending nuptials lifted everyone's spirits immensely and we truly celebrated life and love all weekend long.  a true party with heart, indeed.

ashly & scott - we are all so very happy for you two . . . keep the bubbles coming!

HBD, Hoot!

happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear mr. hooooooo-ooot.  happy birthday to YOU {and me}!

trying not to be emo over here- i mean, it's just a blog, for george's sake.  let's not get too carried away.   that being said, bear with me as i thank some muy importante peeps . . . like YOU.

a year ago i launched lil hoot.  it's still pretty small potatoes {maybe always will be} but what isn't small at all is the overwhelming amount of encouragement i feel from my readers, friends, family, and colleagues {such a foncy word}.

i am forever grateful for my cheerleaders {you know who you are}
and also the relationships i've made because of my lil biz.  it's been such big fun to conspire with such serious talent - wor-ship all of these ladies who are so. darn. good. at what they do.

in a {party/blog} world where competition and pettiness can prevail- you gals have managed to support and inspire in ways i don't even think you realize and it is truly appreciated.
you rock.

and now please excuse my open love letter to ms. meredith nelson.

dear meredith,

you have given me and mr. hoot a gift like no other : your bananas documentation of my parties with heart . . . and for that, my gratitude measures beyond words.
but i have to say our friendship is really the wind beneath lil hoot's wings.
thank you for always showing up with a smile - even when i ask you to pick up ginormous balloons on your way to shoot a party, or walk in to find a very "unfinished" party scene {ahum, sprinkle. . .}
you are the real deal, sister.  and that, my friend, is worth celebrating every day.

love,
me

totes creepster, right?  hey CBC, i promise i'm not leaving you for meredith . . . yet. ha.  seriously tho, she's legit. {but no one compares to CBC.  i really like you, a lot, hunny.}

okay, i'm babbling so i'll leave you all with this.

ahhhh-maze-balz.

i'm off to walk my dogs.
happy weekend!
and P.S. i love you. {okay, i'll try to refrain from overly corny blog posts for another year, but that's highly unlikely}
ooxx

SAG happy

so i think the sag fashions blew the globes out of the water.  i have lots of faves!  and i'm actually in a good mood for a monday so don't have anything negative to say except for busy phillips. . . because well, she's just asking for it.

one of my fave games to play with peeps is to ask 'what would you wear to an awards show?'
my stock answer is white because it was such huge big fun to wear white on my wedding day and when else can you wear it, really?  but in reality {you know fake reality} i would go with. . . you guessed it, hot pink.

hennyways, lots o' white last night!

sort of boring but the good wife looks pretty.

a miss for gretchen mol.

is this chick wear the same blah dress as the good wife?

i am totes digging this outfit on rose byrne.  such a risk but i think she pulls it off.  {i'm also heavily involved with her character on damages right now.  ellen parsons does not wear this cool shiz tho}

whatevs . . .

okay again.

winner in white alert!
zoe saldana nailed it.

never thought i'd cite shaun robinson as a best dressed but i love this color.

gorge.  i heart julie bowen, fellow mama of twins.

dianna agron gets my number 1 award for the night.  i think her look is perfection.

reminds me a bit of my all time fave awards show look.  old-school portman.

stunning, really.

other non-white/pink faves include
michele williams {totes redeemed herself from the globes}

maya rudolph.  just love-love her hilarious ass.

and emily blunt.  gorge in green!

but i heart her man even more.  special soft spot for jim from the office.

i'm sorry i just have to address busy.  was she too busy to go shopping?  ha.  but forrealz.  no comprende.

can't end on that note, can we?  i think i just have one last thing to say-
wasn't it so nice of me to loan sofia vergera my body. . . again.
hope that hot biatch appreciates it!

so what would YOU wear?
